“PayTechLaw” – New Handbook on Digital Payment Services Published with Annerton as Editors and Contributors
Berlin, Frankfurt a. M., Munich, 18 September 2025 – The new handbook “PayTechLaw – The Law of Digital Payment Services” has been published by C.H. BECK. The work is edited by Prof. Dr Carsten Herresthal, LL.M., and Annerton partners Dr Matthäus Schindele and Frank Müller, LL.M. The book features contributions from numerous Annerton lawyers and renowned experts from the payment industry.

Digital payment methods are evolving rapidly – driven by technological innovation and a wide range of use cases such as point-of-sale, e-commerce, in-app purchases or peer-to-peer transactions. This handbook offers a sound and practical overview of the regulatory and civil law framework shaping these developments.
In addition to the legal context, the book also explains the functionality of common payment methods – from direct debit and credit cards to mobile payments, e-money and gift cards.
The handbook’s target audience includes in-house legal counsel, academics and legal practitioners working in the payment sector.
Dr. Matthäus Schindele:
“This handbook combines academic depth with strong practical relevance. It is the first work to systematically and comprehensively address both the regulatory framework and concrete payment methods – written by people who deal with these issues every day.”
Frank Müller, LL.M.:
“Digital payment methods are already a part of our everyday lives – whether at the supermarket checkout or during an online purchase. Technology is advancing rapidly, and the legal framework is evolving alongside it. That’s exactly where our handbook comes in.”
The book is available in bookstores, e.g. Beck-Shop. The digital version is available at beck-online.
